History of the Practice

In 1981 two former classmates at UMDNJ Dr. Alan Cohn a general dentist and Dr. Ira Port a periodontist decided to bring a unique style of dental practice to the Jersey Shore area. At that time most dental practices were located in homes or professional buildings. Specialists were in locations distant from their referring dentists. Dental practices were open during traditional business hours.

We realized that there was a large segment of the population that could not get to the dentist during normal business hours. If a specialist was necessary, many patients did not have the time to go back and forth between two offices. Rapid changes in technology made it difficult for a solo practice to keep up with all the new techniques. In addition, the new equipment that was available was very expensive.

Our concept was to bring top quality dentistry to the public at convenient locations with patient friendly hours. By having specialists and general dentists working together under one roof, patients could get everything they needed in one location with state-of- the-art equipment readily available. The doctors could take generous amounts of continuing education because there was always someone available to cover.
