Traditional Dental Bridge

For this type of bridge, your dentist will prepare the teeth on both sides of the missing tooth for crowns. Then, a bridge will be made consisting of a crown, then the false tooth, then another crown. This is the most popular type of bridge because it provides a balanced bite force, making chewing comfortable and natural. However, it does require removing the enamel on the adjacent teeth in order to place the crowns.

Cantilever Dental Bridge

This type of bridge is exactly like a traditional bridge but only requires one adjacent tooth to be prepared for a crown, making it a more conservative option. This is not a good option for the back of the mouth where the bridge will experience a lot of bite force.

Implant-Supported Bridge

An implant-supported bridge offers a tooth replacement that does not cause damage to the adjacent teeth, making it a popular option. Unlike traditional implants, implant bridges require fewer posts. Rather than having three posts for three teeth, you might only need two posts. While this is the most expensive type of dental bridge, it is less expensive than a full set of implants.

Maryland Dental Bridge

A Maryland dental bridge is a cost-effective way of replacing teeth but does not have the longevity that the three options above have. For a Maryland bridge, metal wings on either side of the replacement tooth are bonded to the back of the adjoining teeth, similar to how braces are placed. Keep in mind that this might not be an option for a person whose bite would interfere with the metal wings.
